Summary: librarian at Middle School Number One in Russia's North Caucasus region who had undergone several operations from her injuries she suffered during the 2004 school hostage-taking crisis in the southern town of Beslan after she was held hostage for three days along with her 3-year-old son (who had survived the siege) as well as more than 1,100 children, parents and staff in the school's gymnasium by at least 31 heavily-armed Chechen militants that ended on Sept. 3, 2004 when one of the militants' explosive devices went off and security forces stormed the building as the ensuing maelstrom of explosions and gunfire killed the majority of the victims including 186 children and 12 special forces and emergency workers during the siege, in which two other former hostages died of their wounds in August and December last year and another former hostage died in August 2006 bringing the overall death toll to 333.
