Summary: former college football player who had been transferred to Texas Tech from Navarro Junior College and played one year under coach Spike Dykes as a defensive tackle, but who was paralyzed in a 1997 car accident when he was riding with three others in the front seat of a pickup truck that rear-ended a car near campus (he wasn't wearing a seat belt and his head hit the windshield), and who had spent the past 10-plus years in a wheelchair with movement limited to his head, neck, and left arm.
