Sir Don Beaven
Summary: New Zealand scientist and diabetes researcher who became a pioneer in major developments in diabetes treatment and prevention and in many initiatives in public health system around the globe, who served as foundation professor of the Christchurch School of Medicine for more than 40 years and was later commemorated as one of the Twelve Local Heroes, in which a bronze bust of him was unveiled outside the Christchurch Arts Centre earlier this year.
