Summary: author, screen actor, and decorated Vietnam War veteran who served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam in 1969 and 1970 with the First Air Cavalry, who wrote and published two best-selling books The Last Dead Soldier Left Alive (2007), a first-hand account of his inquiry into why thousands of Vietnam veterans have committed suicide, and Last Train Out (2008), who as an actor had roles in several feature films, including Stranger Than Paradise (1984), Night on Earth (1991), Dead Man (1995), and Trees Lounge (1996), and who suffered from posttraumatic stress disorder in recent years but finished writing his third book In the Valley of Dry Bones (2009).
