Rev. Donice Alverson
Summary: retired Methodist pastor and civic activist who was active in the anti-Gov. Earl Long movement and also campaigned against corruption in Gov. Robert Kennon's administration and opposed U.S. Senator Joseph McCarthy's anti-Communist hearings, who was also active in the spiritual lives of local students and was an outspoken desegregation advocate by preaching the need for compassion and opening his congregation to people of all races, and who went on to serve as pastor of Lake Vista United Methodist Church from 1972 until he retired in 1987.
