Summary:
former mayor of Dhaka, Bangladesh from 1994 to 2002 who was an elected parliament member from Dhaka-12 constituency in 1973 and served as a whip of the National Parliament before he was elected to the Dhaka City Corporation in March 1994, but who had suffered splinter injuries during the August 21, 2004 Dhaka grenade attack that left 24 people dead and more than 300 others injured on an Awami League public rally, which was targeted to assassinate the former opposition leader and incumbent prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
