Summary: medical pioneer whose parents' battle to save him from a nerve disease was the subject of the 1992 movie Lorenzo's Oil starring Susan Sarandon and Nick Nolte who at age five was found to have adrenoleukodystrophy, a rare hereditary children's disease, and was given only a few years to live whose parents formulated a blend of erucic and oleic acids found in cooking oils that they said helped their son to fight the disease, in which a study published in 2005 said that the oil might delay the disease in boys who did not show symptoms.
