Summary: South African vice president of the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce in Johannesburg, South Africa who had been hospitalized in critical condition at an intensive care unit from severe burns suffered up to 86 percent of his body in the air crash of Singapore Airlines Flight 006 when the Los Angeles-bound Boeing 747-400 jumbo jet crashed and burst into flames while taking off at Taiwan's Chiang Kai-Shek International Airport during a typhoon on Oct. 31, 2000 killing 81 of the 179 passengers and crew on board, in which it was the first major accident for Singapore Airlines in 28 years of operation.
