John Hinckley, Sr.
Summary: Virginia businessman whose son John Hinckley, Jr. had been confined to a Washington, D.C. psychiatric hospital since he shot and wounded President Ronald Reagan in an apparent assassination attempt in 1981, in which the younger Hinckley said he was trying to impress actress Jodie Foster and was found not guilty by reason of insanity, but a federal judge ruled in 2005 that he was allowed to have brief visits with his family who lived about three hours from Washington.
