retired police detective with the New York City Police Department (NYPD) who was among more than thousands of police officers, firefighters, and construction workers suffering from serious respiratory ailments attributed to exposure with toxic chemicals contracted during the rescue and recovery operations in the rubble at the site of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center after he had spent over 470 hours digging through debris and inhaling the noxious gases and fumes present around the Ground Zero area in the weeks following the attacks, but who had developed a chronic cough and shortness of breath shortly after finishing his recovery work at the WTC attack site and was granted a %75 pay disability pension by the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund in November 2004.
