Howard W. Johnson
Summary: former president of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology who brought calm and conciliation to the campus at the height of the Vietnam War protests in the late 1960's, in which several of MIT's laboratories were receiving millions of dollars for secret research under contracts with the U.S. Department of Defense, including the development of long-range missile guidance systems.
