Summary: the first black president of the Vietnam Veterans of America from 1997 to 2001 who appeared before Congress to seek improved health care for veterans and opposed spending cuts for smoking-related illnesses, who worked to alleviate homelessness among veterans and to recruit more blacks into the organiazation's predominantly white membership, and who served in a delegation appointed by President Bill Clinton to go to Vietnam and investigate the PoW/MiA issue.
