Summary: Cambodian-born photojournalist for the New York Times whose fight to survive the murderous Khmer Rouge Communist regime of his native country in the 1970's was recreated in the Oscar-winning film The Killing Fields (1984), who was portrayed by fellow Cambodian physician-turned-actor Dr. Haing S. Ngor, in which he won a best-supporting actor Oscar but was shot to death in 1996 by a teenage gang member in Los Angeles.
