in critical condition for more than a week after she was shot in the
head in a high-profile outbreak of gang violence outside the South Los
Angeles campus on March 17, 2005 as she was leaving the school with two
friends while waiting for a ride home, in which a suspected gang member
identified as 18-year-old DeJuan Hines was later arrested several hours
after the shooting and is scheduled to be arraigned on attempted murder
charges.
