Summary: U.S. Navy intelligence officer and son of retired North Central College speech communication/theatre professor emeritus Donald Shanower who was recently promoted to the rank of Commander in December 2000  after he was handpicked to oversee about 30 people who monitor events around the world and compile daily intelligence updates for senior navy officials about a year ago, and who also wrote essays for the U.S. Naval Institute magazine Proceedings, including an article in 1997 called Freedom Isn't Free that reflected on the loss of four shipmates in a 1987 operational accident.
