Summary: retired businessman and father of infamous University of Texas Tower sniper Charles J. Whitman who was thrust into the national spotlight for many years but remained reclusive when his eldest son had killed 14 people and wounded 32 others as a 25-year-old engineering student and former U.S. Marine in a 1966 mass shooting rampage located in and around the university's 32-story administration building from the observation deck and whose pallbearers at his son and slain wife's funeral included some of Lake Worth's prominent politicians.
