convicted murderer and member of the Black Panther Party splinter group Black Liberation Army who along with his co-defendant Abdul Majid were convicted for the murder of New York City police officer John Scarangella and the attempted murder of Scarangella's partner Richard Rainey during a routine traffic stop in St. Albans, Queens, New York on April 16, 1981 after the two NYPD officers pulled over a van carrying the two men inside to investigate for connections in a string of recent burglaries, and who was serving a 25-years-to-life sentence at the Great Meadow Correctional Facility in upstate New York.
