Summary: Russian bank custodian who had been hospitalized in very serious condition for more than a year but never regained consciousness from a shoulder injury suffered in the Beslan school hostage crisis after a group of terrorists attacked School Number One in the town of Beslan, North Ossetia-Alania in the North Caucasus region of the Russian Federation and took more than 1,2000 children, parents, and teachers hostage on the first day of school on September 1, 2004 while the school was held under siege for nearly three days when the terrorists detonated bombs in the packed gymnasium precipitating a firefight between militants and Russian security forces, in which more than 300 civilians were killed including 186 children.
