Maria Teresa Sosa
Summary: Guatemalan politician, activist and former First Lady of Guatemala from 1982 to 1983 who was the widow of the late Guatemalan president Efrain Rios Montt and became a candidate for the Presidency for the Guatemalan Republic Front in the 1995 elections, whose candidacy was annulled by the Citizen Registry because she could not be elected to the position under the express prohibition contained in article 186 of the Constitution of Guatemala, but who was succeeded as her party's candidate by Alfonso Portillo (he subsequently won the 1999 elections).
