Ukrainian chess grandmaster considered by many to be one of the more colorful characters on the chess circuit who had an extraordinary talent for rapid chess, which has been demonstrated at some of the world's most prestigious 'speed chess' tournaments, who won the Ukrainian Championships three times in the 1980's and took part in the Soviet Championships several times, where he played for Ukraine in team events in the Moscow 1994, Yerevan 1996 and Elista 1998 Chess Olympiads, winning team silver and bronze medals in 1996 and 1998 respectively.
