German author and journalist who had been the editor-in-chief of the foreign policy magazine Internationale Politik since 2008, who was known as one of Germany's foremost foreign policy analysts when she started her career as a Middle East correspondent in Israel, where she covered a range of events such as the Oslo peace process, the Intifada and the 1995 assassination of Israeli prime minister Yitzhak Rabin.
