Filipino militant who along with his brother Abdullah Maute co-founded a Dawlah Islamiyah (Islamic state) group in Mindanao, Philippines known as the Maute group after their surnames who criticized the Moro Islamic Liberation Front leadership and pledged allegiance to the terror group ISIS after the MILF separatist began to engage in peace negotiations with the Philippine government, but who later established connections with the late Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) founder Ameril Umbra Kato (who died in 2015).
