Summary:
pioneering aviator and military pilot who was the only Native American woman to serve in the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) during World War II when she joined them after high school (and while with them she had the dangerous job of towing targets for aerial gunnery students), but who later joined the United States Air Froce, where she served for ten years as an air traffic controller, who was an Oglala Sioux from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota and also was inducted into the South Dakota Aviation Hall of Fame in 2007.
