Summary:
Canadian transplant recipient who was Canada's first child to survive a liver transplant and became a symbol of medical advancement and determination to live by helping to change attitudes about transplants and pave the way for other recipients to bring organ donation to the forefront, who suffered from biliary atresia (a condition that prevents bile from leaving the liver) and received her new liver as a two-year-old in Boston, Massachusetts in 1985 (transplants weren't performed in Canada back then, but organ donation on young children was not common back in the mid-1980's), and who had a second liver transplant in 2010.
