Summary:
Malaysian politician and the fourth secretary-general for the opposition party Democratic Action Party (DAP) in Malaysia from 1999 to 2004 who was detained for 60 days without trial under the Internal Security Act 1960 (ISA) as part of a 1987 government sponsored crackdown that saw the arrest of many people, including activists, intellectuals and opposition politicians, who was also elected as a Member of Parliament for the Pasir Pinji, Perak federal constituency in the Ipoh Timor parliamentary seat in 1990 and won the Kota Melaka, Malacca parliamentary constituency in 1999 but lost it in the 2004 general election, then officially retired from Malaysian politics in the same year.
