former chief executive officer and chairman of Kraft, Inc., the maker of popular brands like Velveeta processed cheese and Philadelphia cream cheese, who oversaw its $13.1 billion acquisition by the Philip Morris Cos. in 1988 in one of the largest mergers in U.S. history, which made Philip Morris the world's largest consumer goods producer at the time, who became vice chairman of the combined company and chief of its Kraft General Foods division after Philip Morris and Kraft merged while he oversaw the integration of Kraft with General Foods, the manufacturer of Jell-O and Maxwell House Coffee, which Philip Morris acquired in 1985.
