Summary:
former Marin County, California prosecutor and Superior Court judge who was primarily known for his heroic role in the infamous Marin County Civic Center shootout in San Rafael, California on August 7, 1970 in which he was taken hostage in a courtroom along with Judge Harold Haley and three female jurors by 17-year-old Jonathan Jackson and three inmates from San Quentin State Prison in what is widely speculated to be a failed attempt to free his brother, imprisoned black power leader George Jackson, and the other two inmates related to the case of the so-called Soledad Brothers, who was shot in the spine and paralyzed from the waist down in the shooting spree in which four people including Judge Haley and Jackson were killed during the escape attempt.
