Mexican documentary filmmaker and visual artist who became known with his productions related to social class disparities, labor and environmental issues like in his film Los herederos, which revolves around child labor and that was seen in more than 160 countries after being supported by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), whose first documentary film Tropic of Cancer (2004) was the winner of the Best Documentary Award at the Morelia Film Festival and received three Ariel awards for Best First Film playing in over 100 international film festivals including Cannes' Critics Week, Sundance, and Cinema du Reel as part of Mexico's most innovative contemporary films featured at The Museum of Modern Art in New York City in 2011.
