French screen and stage actress who was nominated for an Oscar for best actress in 2013 for her role in Michael Haneke's brutal depiction of an aging couple in the film Amour co-starring another French movie legend Jean-Louis Trintignant, which won the Oscar for best foreign-language film and also won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival (the actors played a loving, elderly Parisian couple, one of whom has a stroke), and who made an early splash in filmmaker Alain Resnais's acclaimed Hiroshima Mon Amour (1959) in her 60-year career.
