Summary: convicted murderer who was once on Death Row for the 1957 murder of 15-year-old high school honor student and cheerleader Victoria Ann Zielinski and became a celebrity after vigorously contesting his conviction through the courts and in the media, whose case was argued in public most notably by conservative commentary William F. Buckley, Jr., but who eventually succeeded in winning a retrial and negotiating a reduced sentence, and was released only to be incarcerated for a second time in 1976 for kidnapping and attempted murder.
