college student at Sacred Heart University and daughter of James Nelson, a Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police officer who was killed in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in Manhattan, New York while trying to rescue people trapped in the World Trade Center, who was certified in youth mental health first aid and volunteered at the nonprofit group Resiliency Center of Newtown that provides free counseling and other services to people affected by the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School that killed 20 children and six educators.
