Summary:
British retired mine rescue worker and pensioner who was awarded the George Medal in the 2017 Queen's Birthday Honours for his bravery in trying to prevent the murder of the Labour MP Jo Cox after he was seriously injured when he was stabbed in the stomach as he intervened in the attack and tried to stop right-wing extremist Thomas Mair attacking Cox in Birstall, West Yorkshire, England in June 2016, who had worked as a miner for 40 years and was a former member of the Gomersal mines rescue team during the 1973 Lofthouse mining disaster, in which seven men died.
