Serbian actor considered as one of former Yugoslavia's best-known film stars who was said to have played the most film roles in the former Communist-run multi-ethnic federation, mostly portraying partisan fighters battling the German Nazi occupation during World War II, whose most famous movie Walter Defends Sarajevo made him a star in China because the 1972 film about partisan resistance in the city was one of the few foreign films shown in China at the time, offering a glimpse into the outside world.
