Uzkek-born Russian military band conductor and musical composer who was a former lieutenant general in the Russian military before he conducted the massed Russian military bands at the annual Victory Day parade held in the Moscow's Red Square in a record of 14 times, but who had recently retired from active conducting and was also the artistic director of the Alexandrov Ensemble, which was scheduled to conduct the choir arm of the ensemble for Russian troops stationed in Syria as part of celebrations welcoming the new year.
