Scottish serial killer and kidnapper who was convicted of the abduction, rape and murders of four young children aged between 5 and 11 in a series of killings across the United Kingdom in the 1980's whose history of violence towards young girls was revealed during the 2011 murder trial of 9-year-old Jennifer Cardy after investigators had concluded that he may be responsible for 12 other unsolved child murders committed throughout the U.K., Ireland and continental Europe between 1969 and 1987, but who was recently charged with the 1978 disappearance and murder of 13-year-old Genette Tate.
