Lebanese top military commander of the Iranian-backed Shiite terrorist organization Hezbollah who was suspected of his involvement in the deadly 1983 suicide bombings of the American and French embassies in Kuwait after he was accused of having helped plan the truck bombing that killed 305 U.S. Marine Corps and French army barracks in Beirut, Lebanon in October 1983 introducing the world to the militant guerrilla network that would later become Hezbollah, and who was also the most prominent of five men linked to Hezbollah being tried in absentia by a special United Nations-backed tribunal at The Hauge, Netherlands for the 2005 assassination of former Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri in a suicide bombing, which killed him and 22 others.
