retired judge who was involved in two sensational Chicago-area murder trials when he presided over the 1980 trial of John Wayne Gacy after he was convicted of killing 33 men and boys and burying 26 of them around his suburban Chicago home, who also was a supervisor in the Cook County state's attorney's office during Richard Speck's murder trial after Speck was convicted in the 1966 killings of eight student nurses in Chicago.
