former scout in the Boy Scouts of America who gained some notoriety in 1994 at age 17 for attempting to build a homemade breeder nuclear reactor for a Boy Scout project in his mother's backyard shed in Commerce Township, Michigan and wrote to numerous nuclear industry entities, including the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) while posing as a high school science teacher at the time, whose travails were most notably chronicled in a 1998 article in Harper's Magazine, which described his story in detail and was also the subject of the 2004 book The Radioactive Boy Scout by journalist Ken Silverstein.
