Summary:
Algerian revolutionary militant who was the first leader of the Autonomous Zone of Algiers (ZAA) political faction during the Algerian war of independence, but who was captured by French paratroopers in 1957 and was severely tortured while he was imprisoned in the Serkadji prison in Algiers (he was placed into the cell next door to National Liberation Front co-founder Larbi Ben M'hidi) until being released when Algeria gained independence in 1962.
