Polish-born writer and Holocaust survivor who was among one of a small number of Jews to survive a mass escape from the Nazi death camp of Sobibor in 1943 but who decades later was a prominent witness at the 2009-2011 trial of alleged camp guard John Demjanjuk (Blatt lost both parents and a younger brother in the gas chambers at Sobibor), who suffered from nightmares and depression until the end of his life yet never sought vengeance on the Germans for the murder of Jews or for the complicity of many of his anti-Semitic Polish countrymen.
