Summary: French cartoonist and editorial director of the French satrical newspaper Charlie Hebdo who oversaw the publication of a spoof issue in 2011 that was advertised as guest-edited by the Prophet Muhammad and led to the paper's offices being firebombed, but who defied the advice of the French government in 2012 and published crude caricatures of Muhammad shown naked and in sexual poses (depictions of the prophet are forbidden under Islamic law, even if reverent).
