Summary: widow of former White House press secretary James Brady (d. 2014) who was an activist for gun control after her husband was shot in the head in the 1981 assassination attempt on Pesident Ronald Reagan by John Hinckley, Jr. that left James Brady partially paralyzed, who became involved in gun control in 1985 and chaired Handgun Control, Inc. (renamed the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence as a tribute to the Bradys) before the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act was signed into law in 1993 by President Bill Clinton.
