Summary:
Canadian prisoner who had spent more than three decades in prison for a murder he didn't commit when he was convicted of the 1967 murder of Ottawa firefighter Leopold Roy after making a confession to police which he recanted two hours later but the crown prosecutors withdrew the murder charges against him in 2010 following a new trial granted by the Ontario Court of Appeal in part because a 1968 police report establishing a clear alibi for Phillion had not been turned over to his defence lawyer in his original trial, who also launched a $14 million lawsuit against the Ontario government in 2012 and became the longest-serving inmate in Canada to have a murder conviction quashed.
