Robert P. DeVecchi
and chief executive officer of the International Rescue Committee who
helped to resettle dispossessed people around the world, in which the
IRC first worked to help Jews flee Nazi Germany when it was founded in
1933 and the committee created emergency relief programs in nearly 30
countries, including Bosnia, Rwanda, Afghanistan, Somalia, Cambodia,
Sudan, and Iraq, and resettled more than 200,000 refugees in the U.S.
under his leadership.
