Summary:
Brooklyn-born mental patient who spent most of his adult life in institutions, often subject to isolation, physical punishment, and numbing medication because of his profound mental illness and was hospitalized more than 100 times since his first breakdown in 1962 shortly before he turned 19 whose condition was never accurately diagnosed (sometimes as schizophrenia, sometimes as bipolar disease depending on what medication he responded to), and whose case was the subject of a 2002 documentary titled Imagining Robert: My Brother, Madness & Survival based on a 1997 book by his brother Jay Neugeboren.
