Summary:
Republican businessman and farmer whose run for Mississippi governor in 1983 was thwarted by discredited sexual accusations against his opponent, Democrat state Attorney General Bill Allain (d. 2013) who was an All-American football player for the U.S. Naval Academy in 1944 to 1945 and coached there in 1948 to 1949 before he became the GOP nominee in 1983, but his candidacy was overshadowed during the final weeks of the campaign when three transvestite prostitutes publicly claimed they had sex with Allain and refused to promote the story after Allain denied the accusations and was elected governor, in which the prostitutes later recanted their stories.
