Summary: marijuana activist at the center of a nationally watched medical marijuana case who along with four others including his wife, two relatives, and a friend had faced charges after they were caught around 2012 growing about 70 pots plants on their rural property near Kettle Falls, Washington and were known as the "Kettle Falls Five" because he said he used the drug to ease pain from gout, but the government argued that the operation did not comply with the state's medical marijuana law before he was dismissed from the case in February 2015 after being diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer while another defendant cut a plea deal and the rest were found guilty.
