Summary: French race driver for Marussia (now known as Manor Marussia) who finished in ninth place on Monaco's circuit on Oct. 5, 2014 and gave the unheralded team its best finish and first points in F1, but who had been hospitalized for more than nine months since his emergency treatment in Japan in the days after his accident occurred at the end of the race at the Suzuka circuit in rainy, gloomy conditions when his car slid off the track and plowed into a crane picking up the Sauber of German driver Adrian Sutil (who had crashed in the same spot one lap earlier).
