Summary: president and chief operations officer of Coca-Cola Co. from 1981 to 1993 who helped to steer the company through the "cola wars" of the 1980's and played a key role in the introduction of New Coke, in which the new formula (sweeter and less acidic than the original version) was a disaster and prompted protests by fans and an onslaught of negative publicity until Coca-Cola dumped New Coke soon after, bringing back the old formula as "Coca-Cola Classic."
