Summary: space scientist who helped to direct both NASA's Galileo mission to Jupiter and the international Rosetta space-exploration project, but who wrote or co-wrote more than a dozen scientific papers and conducted landmark research on the evolution and interior physics of comets, Jupiter and its moons, solar wind, and other subjects when she joined Pasadena's Jet Propulsion Laboratory soon after completing graduate school at the University of Michigan, which named her its Woman of the Year in 1993.
